How Much Does it Cost to Hire a Lawyer?
Some people say they can’t afford a lawyer. Some people think that their case is too small to even bother calling one. Those people would be wrong on both counts. It is the goal of Petis Law to provide outstanding legal services at an affordable price. Towards that end, Petis Law offers several types of payment plans, depending on the type of case. To figure out which fee agreement fits your case best, contact us, because every consultation is 100% free, even if we are unable to assist you.
We know that every case is unique, including yours. There is no “one size fits all” fee agreement for every type of matter. Because of the unique circumstances of every case, please call us for a free consultation to discuss which fee arrangement best suit the particular needs of your unique case.
Remember, there is no such thing as a small case; there are only attorneys who are too small to take them.
Contingent Fee Agreements:
Under this type of fee agreement, our fee is based upon a reasonable, agreed-upon percentage of the recovery. If Petis Law is unable to get you a settlement or a verdict at trial, you do not have to pay Petis Law any attorneys’ fees. In other words, Petis Law does not get paid unless you get paid. The Colorado Supreme Court has said that the client is ultimately responsible for costs, and in many cases, we are able to advance the costs for you.
Contingent fee agreements are used for certain types of cases, including most personal injury cases, insurance bad faith and unreasonable delay/denial cases, workers’ compensation cases, and some employment law cases.
When Petis Law agrees to work on a contingent fee basis, you don’t have to worry about how much time your attorneys are spending getting your medical records, the time we spend consulting with experts, or negotiating with the insurance company. You don’t have to worry about getting billed by the hour. Under contingent fee agreements, we only get paid if you get paid.
Flat Fee Agreements:
Under this type of fee agreement, we will come to an agreement as to how much you are going to pay for a particular type of case. There are certain types of cases that are fairly routine, and we know how much it is going to cost even before the legal work begins. For example, we can perform the closing services for a mobile home unit for $500.00 plus costs (which are usually between $50.00 and $100.00, depending on the county). If the buyer and seller agree on splitting the fees and costs, this becomes a relatively inexpensive expenditure for people needing a real estate attorney!
There are other types of cases which Petis Law handles on a flat fee basis, including certain business entity formations (including setting up LLCs, nonprofits (501(c)(3)s), and some partnerships); various real estate transactions (drafting commercial and residential lease agreements); some estate planning documents (last will and testament, power of attorney, durable medical power of attorney).
Hourly Fee Agreements:
In some cases, it is not possible to work on a contingent fee, because there is no potential of a monetary settlement or verdict on the other side, as may happen for example, in certain types of civil litigation. For these types of cases, our hourly rates range from $195.00 per hour to $250.00 per hour, depending on the type of case. Petis Law also offers hourly legal research services to individuals, attorneys, and law firms in need of expert legal research.
Sliding Scale / Mixed Fee Agreements:
We understand that times can be tough, and have been through some tough times as well. But for the grace of wonderful family and friends, we’re not sure how we would have made it through. As with all of our other cases, all consultations at Petis Law are free of charge. While our services might not be free (we have student loan payments, after all), please call to see if we can work out a payment plan that works for you.
Credit Card and PayPal Payments:
For cases that require a retainer, a flat fee payment, or monthly billing, Petis Law accepts most major credit cards and can accept payment through PayPal, for ease of payment.
Ultimately, whatever fee structure your case calls for, we will work our hardest to find a fee arrangement that will best fit your needs.
